The US Federal Trade Commission is suing data analytics company Kochava, accusing it of selling sensitive geolocation data from hundreds of millions of mobile devices. The FTC claims the data could reveal users’ visits to sensitive sites, such as visits to abortion providers or addiction rehab centers. It’s the latest move by FTC Chairwoman Lynn Han to increase government oversight of companies that transfer consumer data. Marketplace’s Kimberly Adams recently discussed the importance of the case with Megan Gray, founder and CEO of GrayMatters Law & Policy.
