Ethereum Classic is a Dead Project

The feud between Cardano’s founder and the Ethereum Classic community seems to have escalated. Cardano’s founder condemned the entire project after Ethereum Classic backers accused Charles Hoskinson of trying to extort the network over a proposed 20% miner tax. In the latest tweet, Hoskinson called Ethereum Classic a “dead project” with “no sense” or “really compelling argument” for its existence.

“I love how a sustainable development fund turns into a miner tax. ETC still gives me sadness for what could have been. It’s a dead project with no purpose or real compelling argument to exist outside of spite.”

The Feud

Notably, Cardano executives left Ethereum in 2014 due to disagreements over the future direction of the project. He has been a staunch supporter of Ethereum Classic since the 2016 hard fork. Hoskinson even joined the Ethereum Classic Cooperative board last year.

However, the latest claims come after the CEO of Input Output Global (IOG) proposed a decentralized finance protocol and proposed an ETC development fund. The proposal would significantly change the distribution of ETC’s block reward, which left many members of the community unhappy. Several miners on the network rejected the idea because it cut into their rewards.

The comment was also made on the back of Ethereum Classic, which hit an all-time hash rate of 48.82 Terahashes per second (TH/s) this week. Hashrate has increased by more than 100% in the last year. As a result, ETC managed to book almost 20% of the rally that rose above $40.

History Repeats

This is not the first time the ETC community has asked for his help. After the network experienced several 51% attacks, Hoskinson said he wanted to help. But at that time there were not many in the community who were happy with his offer of salvation. As a result, he lamented that despite helping the Ethereum Classic community in the past, he was treated unfairly by its leadership.

Notably, the Cardano boss also has the official Ethereum Classic Twitter handle, which he has no plans to return to anytime soon, further annoying many ETC advocates.
