According to Mark Cuban, AI will generate employment rather than eliminate them.
Cuban made the comments in reaction to an interview that was published on Wednesday by Axios, which featured an interview with Dario Amodei, the CEO of Anthropic. According to Amodei’s interview, AI might eliminate half of entry-level office positions.
The CEO should be reminded that there used to be over two million secretaries. Separate employees also had office dictation tasks to do. On Wednesday, Cuban posted on Bluesky that they were the original white collar displacements.
He added that AI will create new businesses with new jobs and boost overall employment.
In the next one to five years, unemployment would likely increase by 10% to 20%, Amodei told Axios. He went on to say that the government and AI firms had to stop “sugar-coating” the impact that AI will have on entry-level positions in industries like consulting, finance, and law. According to Amodei, the majority of them are not aware that this is going to occur. People simply don’t accept it since it seems so absurd.
Cuban has previously stated that the impact of AI on white-collar jobs will not be as severe as anticipated. The impact AI can have on a firm’s workforce will rely on “how well the company can implement AI.
According to Cuban, every company is unique.
In a March episode of the “YMH” podcast, Cuban stated that he did not believe artificial intelligence will be able to completely replace artists. AI isn’t going to blow your money and make a movie, a podcast, or anything else for you, he stated.
In a subsequent interview regarding the podcast, Cuban informed BI that AI “is just one more creative tool” and is not a “decision-maker.”
He has witnessed numerous failures of businesses that rely on analytics to decide what a label or studio should release. That’s equivalent to replacing everyone with AI. It might be something new. But, he added, it won’t work.
