Not only are large tech corporations developing AI, but they are also incorporating it into more of their code. Between 20% and 30% of the code for some of Microsoft’s projects is created by artificial intelligence, according to remarks made by CEO Satya Nadella on Tuesday.
“The exact number depends on the programming language,” Nadella told Mark Zuckerberg during Meta’s LlamaCon conference. He went on to say that Microsoft is using AI for purposes other than writing code. According to him, “The agents we have for reviewing code — that usage has increased,” indicating that the business is integrating AI into the entire software development process.
During Alphabet’s earnings call last week, Google CEO Sundar Pichai stated that over 30% of the company’s new code is written by AI, up from 25% in October.
When Nadella questioned Zuckerberg at LlamaCon on the percentage of AI-generated code in Meta, the social media CEO was unable to provide an exact number.
There are other Big Tech CEOs besides Nadella who are using AI for coding. Zuckerberg instead offered a forecast on the AI agents Meta is developing to assist in writing and testing code for its Llama models: they anticipate that, in the coming year, perhaps half of the development will be carried out by AI rather than humans, and that percentage will only rise from there.
As of right now, Meta is utilizing AI in more specialized fields where outcomes can be precisely monitored, such feed experiments and ad rating, according to Zuckerberg.
The adoption of AI for coding is not limited to the biggest tech firms. Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff stated during a February earnings call that the company would stop employing engineers in 2025 due to AI, which he claimed has boosted engineering efficiency by 30%.
According to a January article by Business Insider, the payments company Stripe lay off 300 workers, including engineers.
Currently, Meta is using AI in more specialized areas like feed trials and ad grading, where results can be closely tracked, Zuckerberg said.
Not just the largest IT companies are using AI for coding. During an earnings call in February, Marc Benioff, the CEO of Salesforce, said that the business would stop hiring engineers in 2025 since AI has increased engineering productivity by 30%.
The payments company Stripe laid off 300 employees, including engineers, according to the report.
