The government announced in Rajya Sabha on Monday that a guideline for the application of artificial intelligence (AI) has been concluded for each of the defense public sector undertakings (PSUs).
In response to a question, Minister of State for Defense Ajay Bhatt stated that 40 projects involving Artificial Intelligence (AI) have already been completed by defense PSUs.
He announced the release of an artificial Intelligence framework and protocols for projects and programs in the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO).
Bhatt stated that all DRDO system laboratories have formed AI technology groups in order to incorporate such features into all products.
In addition, an AI guideline for each defense PSU has been agreed upon, with 70 defense-specific AI projects identified for development. Out of these projects, 40 projects have been finished, he said.
The government has already established the Defense Artificial Intelligence Council (DAIC), chaired by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, to provide the required guidance and structural support for the military’s use of AI.
The DAIC was formed on the recommendation of a task force led by N Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons, and after consultation with all stakeholders.
Separately, the Defense AI Project Agency, chaired by the Secretary of Defense Production, has been established to enable AI-based processes in defense organizations.
