According to IBM’s AI chief, a computer science degree may no longer be required if you want to work in the tech industry. According to Matthew Candy, IBM’s worldwide managing partner for generative AI, AI will greatly simplify the process of product development for non-technical individuals.
In a piece that was published on Saturday, Candy stated that individuals will be able to generate ideas, test them, and create things much more quickly. He went on to say that you can accomplish it without a computer science degree. As AI advances, Candy contends that soft skills like critical and creative thinking will become increasingly important.
He said previously that he believed AI will free up more capacity for creative brain processes, therefore innovation, creativity, and questioning would become increasingly vital. But it’s not just careers in technology. Candy believes that improvements in AI image-generation technologies will have an impact on artists. Candy informed that you don’t have to be a graphic designer or have a degree in art to achieve these things.
Candy’s comments reflect those of LinkedIn vice president Aneesh Raman, who spoke on Microsoft’s podcast “Worklab” in November. Raman told host Molly Wood that he believes the rise of AI would place a larger focus on soft talents rather than technical ones. A degree’s shelf life is rapidly dwindling, according to Raman.
According to a Goldman Sachs estimate released in March, artificial intelligence (AI) might disrupt over 300 million employment. IBM, Candy’s employer, announced in May that it will stop hiring people for positions that artificial intelligence may take over.
IBM CEO Arvind Krishna told that, over a five-year period, he could easily see 30% of that being replaced by AI and automation, specifically referring to the company’s back-office functions.
