Indian Ministry to introduce 75 new AI products

This is the first time in India that the Department of Defence Production and Ministry of Defence will arrange an ‘Artificial Intelligence in Defence’ (AIDef) symposium and exhibition which will be launched by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday, July 11 at Vigyan Bhawan in Delhi.

The occasion will include an exhibition that will demonstrate the cutting-edge AI-enabled solutions developed by various industries such as services, Industry start-ups and innovators, research organizations.

Defence Secretary Dr. Ajay Kumar at a press conference stated that this exhibition is a big event where one can witness the launch of 75 newly-developed AI products/technologies with defense applications. This event is a part of the bash marking 75 years of Independence ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ as well as to promote the ‘Aatmanirbharta’ initiative in Defence.

Some of the newly-developed products are in the following domains:

  1. Automation/unmanned/robotics systems
  2. Cyber security
  3. Human behavior analysis
  4. Intelligent monitoring system
  5. Logistics and supply chain management
  6. Speech/voice analysis and Command
  7. Control
  8. Communication
  9. Computer & Intelligence
  10. Surveillance & Reconnaissance (C4ISR) systems, and
  11. Operational Data Analytics

Furthermore, two top defence exporters, one from the public and one from the private sector, will be honored during the event. During the press conference, Additional Secretary Shri Sanjay Jaju responded to a question by saying that defence exports have reached an all-time high of Rs 13,000 crore in the Fiscal Year 2021-22, with the private sector contributing 70% and the public sector contributing 30%.

Panel discussions on ‘Deploying AI in Defence,’ ‘GenNext AI solutions,’ and ‘AI in Defence – Industry Perspective’ will also take place, with active participation from the Services, academia, students, and research organizations, and industry.

A ‘GenNext AI’ Solutions Competition has been organized to solicit students’ innovative ideas for futuristic AI solutions. The top three ideas selected by AI experts will also be honored.

VIPs from friendly foreign countries, senior officials from the Ministry of Defence and other Ministries of the Government of India, and delegates from research institutes, academia, and industry are expected to attend.
