Google will soon provide more information regarding its artificial intelligence research. According to an invitation issued to The Verge, Google will host an event next week to discuss how it’s “using the power of AI to reinvent how people search for, discover, and engage with information, making it more natural and intuitive than ever before to get what you need.” On February 8 at 8:30 AM ET, a live stream of the 40-minute event will be available on YouTube.
The timing of the occasion is intriguing in light of Google CEO Sundar Pichai’s recent announcement that the business will soon enable “direct human interaction” with its “newest, most powerful language models as a companion to search.” Microsoft, which is rumored to be intending to integrate ChatGPT into Bing, is putting pressure on Google, which has long been the de facto method of finding information on the internet. That would enable Bing to provide more insightful summaries and results, something Google has had trouble doing.
The invitation mentions Google Lens, Translate, Shopping, and Maps, so it’s probable that the presentation may focus more on things we’re already familiar with. It would be difficult to criticize if the show only focused on minor adjustments to those tools because those changes could have a significant impact on millions of users.
