Microsoft tech giant Google is planning to embrace Blockchain Technology. The organization has allegedly set up a new unit for looking into the possibility of Blockchain Technology across verticals.
As per the current knowledge, Google with this move is planning to make its progress in distributed computing and also in data storage technologies.
Technology firms are queuing up for adopting Blockchain for a massive number of tasks that use this technology. A recent Bloomberg report has made Google’s plan on heading in this direction public. An internal email accessed by Bloomberg mentions that a new unit will be working on Blockchain and related technologies.
According to the email Google has set up a new unit that focuses on Blockchain and other next-generation distributed computing and data storage technologies.
For this purpose, Google has appointed Shivakumar Venkataraman – engineering VP (Vice President) who has been with them for the past twenty years. He will now serve as the Founding leader of the unit.
An interesting point to be noted is that Google has christened this unit as Google Labs. About a decade ago, this name was in existence. During that period Google Labs served as an incubator where Google used to carry out public demonstrations and its new projects testing. However, this new unit under the same name will have a different focus.
While the old Google Labs remained public, this new unit will be more internal with a focus on high-potential and long-term projects.
The email does not contain any specifics of any specific product or services of Google being subjected to the use of Blockchain Technology.
Given the scope of Blockchain Technology and Google’s huge digital presence, one can be sure that Blockchain will serve a variety of purposes for Google in the forthcoming period.
It was only very recently that Google revealed that it is paying much attention to the cryptocurrency space. The potential idea behind this is providing crypto services via its famous payment portal Google pay.
When this happens, Google has to welcome Blockchain for various integrations. Already many payment gateways are providing crypto payments. To outshine them, Google may offer something innovative. Google might also attempt bringing its cryptocurrency to the world similar to Meta.
This is highly ambitious than the simple addition of crypto-related features to its services. It will not be a huge surprise if Google invents its crypto coin since the company’s intention to work in the direction is transparent.
However, the application may not necessarily revolve around cryptocurrencies, but just Blockchain backed for a different use case. It is up to time to reveal everything.
