Kerala Police, known as one of the most technologically savvy departments in the country, is experimenting with disruptive technologies such as Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics for staying ahead of the curve in this age of digital transformation.
The Digital University Kerala, India’s first on-campus digital university, is assisting them in this endeavor. A specially designed training program for the Police Department, Capacity Building in Responsible Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics, was launched earlier this week at DUK’s Pallippuram campus, according to an official statement.
In launching the program, Inspector General of Police (South Zone) P Prakash stated that the department is currently developing new software, iCoPS, for leveraging the vast amount of crime data that can be obtained from the Crime & Criminal Tracking Network & System (CCTNS).
The use of AI and Data Analytics tools would enable the department to develop software features that are critical for next-generation policing. This initiative’s ultimate goal is to reduce the workload of officers at police stations, allowing them to provide better services to the public.
The entire e-governance initiative was aimed at introducing new applications, hardware, and products to improve governance in general. Now is the time to start onboarding people with specific ideas in data analytics and AI so that governance improves, said the IT Mission Director.
The training program includes 150 hours of classroom instruction led by industry experts and researchers. The first batch of training would include up to 15 officers from the police department, according to the statement.
